Starting Up | Browsing | Bookmarks | Sending Page Finding Stuff | Toolbars Configuring Netscape Communicator 4 for Windows 95/98 and 3.11 to start helper applications automatically
1. Start Netscape Communicator. Click Edit, then click Preferences. 2. Click the plus sign next to Navigator, then click Applications. 3. In the Description list, click the file type of the file you want to be opened automatically. If the desired file type is not in the Description list, you will have to add it yourself. Some common file types are listed in the table below.
4. Click the Edit button. You will see the Edit Type window. 5. In the Handled by section, click Application, and then click Browse. 6. Locate, then select the application from the Open box that appears. This tells Netscape Communicator to open the file with the selected application. If you do not know where the application is on the hard drive, you can search for it. 7. Click Open. 8. Click OK, then click OK again. 9. Thereafter, when you download a file, the helper application you selected will work automatically. Related questions: How do I download things from
